Assalamualaikum.....

This is my final posting for my ICT and language evaluation but insyaallah i will continue it until the end. I love blogging since i took this course six week ago. It keeps me in improving my English Language skill.By reading materials from Internet i can improve my reading skill. In this course, i was asked to search online and off line materials to complete the task. Every week, my lecturer asked my course mates and i to search information about reading, writing, competency, from this assignment, i learn how to cite information and use them to accomplish my job. For example, on fourth week, i was asked to do the assignment about online database. This task asked me to do the research in PTSL. Honestly this was the first time i find the journal at PTSL cyber. I was learnt about online database and know the way of using online journal. Then, i posted the info that got before, in my blog. Through, this assignment also, i know how to paraphrase and summarized the info from committing plagiarism.
In short, blogging taught me to solve the problem depending on myself. At the, beginning of creating this blog i felt so scared and confuse. Confusing of my own ability, whether i can do it and continuing until the end of this course or not. Blogging was the new thing in my life. Before this, i was only know about email, chat room, friendster, my space, i did know about blogger but i was not trying to create the page before this. When my lecturer told us that we are here to learn and try blogging, i was excited to explore it although i thought it was a new and hard thing to do it. But i can learn a new thing in this course.
This blog also teaching me on critical thinking. It asked us to think out of the box. Thinking of the friendster is different than blog. Whereas, this blog was created based on academic blogger. until now, it is only using for academic purposes. After this sixth posting, i can using it for my own purpose, to voice out my thinking to the world. Datin always asked us to think critically about this course. ICT not only to entertainment purposes, marketing, political but to education also. So, this blog can improve my critical thinking based on education. We learnt and thought how to make our blog different from each other by making them creatively and academically.We have to think on how to create our blog different from each others. Make it colorful and useful to be looking at by people outside.
'Try and error'. I always thinking on this way. By thinking like that, i have a confidence to explore more about this blog. I was trying to upload songs, picture and create something interesting to be looking and reading at. This blog asked me to work harder and put a lot of effort on it. Spending more time to modify and improve the page. Every week, i will be posting a material based on topic that we learnt at that week.
The important thing that i learnt from this interesting work is, i learnt how to depend on my own self and produce my own work . Sometimes i asked my friends how to do the job but most of the task i explore it on my own . It is different from before, i always asked my friend how to do the job. Even the instruction was clear. It is because i have no confidence in myself.
Blogging here taught me everything from the smallest until the biggest thing i got the awareness that ICT cannot be separated from language. By expert in ICT we can be mastering too in language.
Last but not least, i want to give my appreciated to the person that always help me. Especially my lecturers, Datin Dr Norizan and Dr Zaini. They put a lot of their effort to taught me on this course. Besides that, i want to thank to my beloved friends and course mate because helping me in completing this assignment.

This is my fifth posting that will discover about my experience on using online test on last Monday. This test was conducted by our tutor. It was about English comprehension.Honestly, this is my first experience on using online test. i was exited to try it before this. After having this online test, i think that it was good to having test in similar format again. This method is good because it can make us saving in paper using. make it paperless. in other way, we can save our environment too because reducing of using paper.this method also is secure than manual way. there is no cheating among student.by using online test like this,people donT have enough time to look at other people's answer and book. it it because, online test has punctual estimated. people can't make it longer because it was set up early. for example, i was having the English Test online by 1 hour. i can't cheating like in manual ways because we can't cheat the computer same like human. no more compromise on taking more time on using this online test. the other advantage of using online is; we can occupy any test anytime, anywhere and any circumstances. it is because it was evaluated by the computer itself. it was programmed to count the marks and evaluate the ' online paper'. for instance, i have occupied the ICT test online last week with my friends in the computer lab. unfortunately one of my classmate came late to our class, so, our tutor asked her to write the test in her room and she can take it anytime but she have completed before this week. it clears that, this online test can be occupied at anytime,anyple and any situation. this test also is efficient marker or evaluator. we can get the mark or result immediately and the tendency of getting wrong result is lower than people do. computer do not have any feeling so it will not be bias like people now. so everyone will get the true mark based on her or his achievement or afford. if we carry o this method to have a test, we can save human energy. we do not have to hire many people to inspect the examination hall or class, just live it to the computer to do the human job. make it reality; computer was created to help people do their work. nowadays, computer will do everything to replace human job such as work in factory or industrial areas, so why do computer work for us in educational areas,doesn't it?
The other benefits on secure aspects also is; by using online test, it can be evaluated immediately and the data of of mark will be saved instantly. It is different by manual test or by using paper. After student written up the the test, the paper have tendency to be lost and student can be cheating by change the paper. In short, manually is more difficult and unsecured compare to online test. The history showed that, manually method of test is unsecured. For example, several years ago, a few packet of test paper had lost because the car that contain the paper has been stolen. So, the student have to occupy the test again. It is so terrible and give problem to the student.
This online test is also very convenience and flexible. As i said before, this online test can be taken anywhere , anytime and any situation. It wont give you any pressure of date, place and so on. If you do not comfortable with PC at your lab, you can sit for the exam at your room. Fortunately, you can get more inspires from your own place, except the due time of the exam or test, all of the things of this online test is good for us. i said like that because you will fell rushing and did not confidence. it is because you always see the time on the page,so, immediately you will feel that time is short and nit enough for you. It happened to me before, while i occupied for the online test. I felt that, one hour was not enough for me and i answered the question without enough confidence. Yet, the computer is the honest thing that can't compromise with us. It can not give us more time to answer the test. When the time is up,we need to stop. that is the rule that we have to follow.
In short, online test is better than manually. It gives us experience and perspective toward ICT.

BEYOND CONCORDANCE LINES: USING CONCORDANCES TO INVESTIGATE LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT.

The usage of corpus has become essential in language teaching and learning worldwide.The main function of corpus is to make the process of learning grammar and linguistic fun and enjoyable. However, the usage of corpora in Malaysia is quite limited. Eventhough, there are good corpus compiled by UTM and UM, it is simply unavailable and out of reach. The existence of EMAS or English for Malaysian school student by UPM was collected back then in 2002 and consists of approximately half a million word (Arshad et al.,2002). The EMAS Corpora contains data in written form of three essays by 800 students ranging from Year 5 of primary school and Form 1 and Form 4 of the secondary who are proficient in English.
The content of the essay differ from one another. The first essay were conducted by the researchers during their visit to school as students were asked to write about fishing trip. The latter essay, however, were administered by teachers from selected schools which entitled The happiest day of my life while the final essay were selected among their take home essays.
The ultimate purpose of the language corpus is to determine language development. Data in the EMAS corpus were implied based on the usage of English of various age groups. The maturing patterns involves the amount of produced language and the use of academic vocabulaty by students.
Language productivity, as we discussed here were symbolised by the number of sentences per essays and the words per sentence. It is used as a tool to examine language development. The result showed that the older student (Form 4) wrote longer essays and built longer sentences.
In terms of the range of vocabulary, the token ratio were often measured by dividing the number of separate words in a text (type) by the number of words in text (token). (Laufer and Nation 1995)
A larger type signifies a more extensive ranged of language used while smaller type is often associated with over-reliance on a limited set of words.
Last but no least, the sophistication of the vocabulary can be tested by using specific software such as RANGE. (Nation, 2002). It is a software used to indicate the type of vocabulary used in essays. The software worked by listing frequently used words, second most frequently used words and words which are out of the first two list but common in higher educational levels such as scientific terminologies or even law maxims.
In conclusion, the future of language corpus in Malaysia seems to be bright as the authorities showed interest in that area in order to determine language devolepment of each individuals in this developing nation.

My fourth posting is about the application of concordance. It is important to know the term of concordance first before we apply it to complete our task.
A concordance is, according to Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (10^th ed.), "an alphabetical index of the principal words in a book or the works of an author with their immediate contexts." An index is, from the same source, "a list (as of bibliographical information or citations to a body of literature) arranged usually in alphabetical order of some specified datum (as author, subject, or keyword): as a: a list of items (as topics or names) treated in a printed work that gives for each item the page number where it may be found." The definition for index goes on to include a number of related ideas, most of which have to do with "indicating." A better definition, for this particular usage of the word index, is this: "An index is a structured sequence—resulting from a thorough and complete analysis of text--of synthesized access points to all the information contained in the text. The structured arrangement of the index enables users to locate information efficiently" (Mulvany, 1994).

Now then, we have defined our terms. Now we can determine what the needs of a particular book are. It may be that a concordance would be useful, but for most books, an index is what is needed. A concordance generator produces a list of words that occur in the book, with the exception of those on the stop list (lists of prepositions, conjunctions, common articles and the like). So, you will see that it is a listing of mainly nouns, verbs and other words not included on the stop list. It will also produce a list of pages or references where these words occur. This sounds good—it sounds like a useful thing. But, you will note that there are several things missing that a standard index should contain.

Concept Indexing If a text contains the words roses, snapdragons, petunias, orchids and violets, there will be page references next to each in the concordance. But there will be no listing under the umbrella term, flowers. Think about that for a minute. And while the text clearly discusses what type of fertilizer to give each plant, it might never mention care and feeding. It is precisely these issues that require a human to analyze the content and organize the information. All but the simplest of books need a map. And that is what an index is. Topic Selection A concordance cannot distinguish between a term that is mentioned in passing at a few locations in the book and a term that is fundamental to the theme or focus of the book. The relative importance of words and concepts can only be determined by a subjective and intelligent analysis of the context of the discussion. No computer program can yet do this. Cross-References Cross-references provide alternate pathways to the information contained in the index. There are two main types of cross-references. See and See also. A See reference indicates that there is no information contained at that entry point. It points the reader to the correct location to find information on that topic. A See also reference points readers to related information in addition to what is found at that entry. These are not the same, but the difference between them can be subtle. Regardless, they are useful and common features of a good index. Cross references can comprise between 1 and 10 percent of all the locators (page references) in an index. Mapping routes through the index is a prime responsibility of a good indexer. Double-Posting Double-posting creates a duplicate entry under another, often synonymous, term. In the book that mentioned flowers, you might see that there is discussion of St. John’s wort (also known as hypericum). If it were double-posted, it might be listed under both of these in the index, with full references to all information contained in the book under each listing. Of course, double-posting is commonly eschewed in favor of See references, because of frequent space limitations in an index. Sub-headings Sub-headings are the real meat-and-potatoes of a good index. A concordance does not have the intellectual and conceptual framework to support an in-depth analysis of topics in sub-heading form. In our flower book, a good index might contain a listing of all of the flowers, and specific topics under each flower noting the context of the discussion. For example: "Roses, mildew on" or "St. John’s wort, medicinal applications of" or "Corn, care and feeding of," to name but a few. In Conclusion An index and a concordance share very little. They are different creatures entirely, each serving a particular need. Concordances lack the analysis that goes into an index, and are consequently less useful. They can be, and are, useful as tools for the information professional; but I wouldn’t recommend them to the general publishing field. A Note on E-Books The growing popularity of the many forms of portable electronic books has serious repercussions for the information retrieval industry (indexing and cataloguing professionals). Should your e-book have an index? Should you rely on the full-text search capabilities of the e-book platform itself? What are the costs involved?

Information and communication technology (ICT) has changed the way we learn, communicate, obtain information, purchase products and do business. ICT can improve efficiency and lower costs; increase your understanding of your clients, suppliers and partners; and improve your communications. This means better customer service, access to new markets, growth and greater profits.

"But detailed analysis of experience around the world reveals ample evidence that, used in the right way and for the right purposes, ICT can have a dramatic impact on achieving specific social and economic development goals as well as play a key role in broader national development strategies." The report that was written by one of the CnetNews' staff showed that ICT is important to the business aspect and can contribute the good impacts. The proves that we can see now are such as electronic business or e-business. everyone knows that e-business is very helping in economic growth in our world.This kind of business is fully using ICT to develop and expand. In Singapore for example, they are taking fully advantages of using ICT to expand their small and medium-size of business. other in business is in construction field, engineering, education or even in transportation. The concept of strategic alignment advocates that decisions on business strategy, information and communication technology (ICT) strategy, business infrastructure and ICT infrastructure need to be coordinated in order to better realize the benefits from ICT investments. In Singapore, there is a 10-year plan presented by the government to transform the sector of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and ICT is identified as an area for SMEs to acquire new capabilities. In this context, the strategic alignment framework is used to evaluate Singapore's small and medium-sized architecture, engineering and construction enterprises on their current practices in the ICT domain. An industry-wide postal survey, adopting the IT Barometer questionnaire and applying stratified sampling, obtained 84 responses out of a total of 754 companies contacted. Of the 84, 67 responses were further stratified by size and annual turnover, according to the SMEs definition, to allow a closer examination of each strata or class. Both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis are used, and the main findings of the research are: (1) targeted schemes need to be set up to address the specific needs and concerns of the micro and small enterprises as distinct from those of the medium-sized enterprises pertaining to building ICTfor the strategic use of ICTs. Based on his statement before, we can assume that at least our people have one computer in their house.So the potential of selling Products through the internet can help the marketing grow up positively. Even a 5 years kid can make deal through the internet.

Nowadays , almost country in the world have created and launched a program named e-governance. This program are updated day by day to give information to the people of country. The challenges presented to local e-government include encouraging all citizens to use e-service delivery, involving the private and civil sectors, and making government willing and able to change.

In short, we can identify and know more about the advantage or benefits from using the ICT towards business. Not in business only, we also can develop anything through this ICT. According to Craig Barret, Chairman of Intel, the largest chip maker in the world, "The Internet and computers are tools. And the impact they make depends on how intelligently those tools are used. We believe that intelligent use of technology can make education better".

Two factors contributing to the change in writing instruction have been the research investigating the way writing is taught and the computer. Research has found that most teachers are concerned with the final product of writing, but have little understanding of the process that successful writers use in creating that product ( Hansen, 1987; Harste et al., 1988). Traditionally, students have been asked to produce compositions on demand, with little guidance on how to work through the steps that quality writing requires.

Proponents of the various writing models endorse writing as an ongoing, multi-stage process, with equal emphasis given to each of the stages. But whether writing is taught by the process approach or by a traditional method, one of the barriers to producing good writers is that students must use pencil and paper to transcribe their thoughts and ideas. Many children are able to express thoughtful experiences, but have difficulty with handwriting; they labor over the first draft. To them, making revisions and recopying becomes an overwhelming burden. It is heartbreaking for a teacher to see a child, out of frustration and despair, tear up and throw away a composition because repeated erasures have made holes in the paper. The original enthusiasm the student had for the writing assignment may evaporate, and the student may approach the next assignment with anxiety and apprehension. Some writers, especially young writers, will make only those changes that do not require copying, regardless of how much the revision would improve their compositions.

Educational computing has undergone a change of focus regarding how the microcomputer should be used in language arts, and especially in writing (see Cochran-Smith, 1991). No longer are computers seen as tutors and drillers. Instead, educators now are realizing that the computer is a tool for handling information. A word processor can become the centerpiece for an effective writing curriculum, encouraging early language production and providing students with opportunities to connect reading and writing. When integrating advanced technology into any curriculum, the teacher must always be aware that it cannot "eliminate" problems. But with instruction and support from the teacher and peers, most students can experience success in writing through the use of a word processor (Bright, 1990)

Word processors are excellent tools for students who find handwriting tedious. Often, students with disabilities have difficulty with all the requirements for the writing process. They have trouble organizing their thoughts and then retaining those thoughts long enough to put them on paper. Their handwriting must be neat enough and their spelling and grammar correct enough to convey their message, tasks that they may find difficult.

It's same like me....
Before i learned about CALL i did not know that playing games is not about enjoying and releasing my tension only....
It can improve my vocabulary,spelling,listening,reading or even writing skills...
How about Simcity?
